Animal House!! V-Day (have I lost my mind)?
Our neighbors have two dogs Sassy and Max and hired a house/pet sitter to take care of them while they traveled. This is how the week started! The house/dog sitter called and told us that Sassy injured her foot and might need to go to the vet. So I carried little Sassy to our house for evaluation. The first thing I did was remove the homemade bandage.
Sassy did have a limp but put weight on her foot plus seemed very happy. I did give her a mild dog pain medication that we brought from the US. That seemed to do the trick since she was jumping, prancing, and doing the happy dance with our three dogs. I decided to observe her for any problems. We previously scheduled a vet appointment for the animals and told our friends that we would take their dogs along. That evening I went and picked up Max from the pet sitter. I needed to have all the dogs ready for early morning travel.
Thursday was “V” day (veterinary day). Have I lost my mind taking 5 dogs and a cat to the vet? Sassy and Kitty are scheduled to be spayed so we would not have any more little Sassy dogs or Kitty’s. I am sure our family and friends wonder why on earth we now have Kitty. Well, we adopted her from renters that were heading back to the US. Kitty is little but mighty. We had seen rats running in our yard that lived in our pile of firewood. Well, no more rats with Kitty patrolling. They packed their bags and move on to another neighbor’s wood pile. The funny thing about Kitty is that she loves our dogs. The dogs tolerate her love since they were raised with cats. In the morning when I let the dogs out Kitty comes running in but realizes the dogs are outside and she races back outside to be with the dogs. Kitty loves to cuddle with the dogs and has a great game of trying to catch their wagging tales.
The canine and feline patients were scheduled for surgery and NPO after 9 pm. Sassy slept isolated in our anti room and Kitty in the bathroom. Max decided to sleep on our dog-restricted couch. But with his pet parents away and being a senior I made an exception. Winky and QE were in bed with us and Lucy prefers her own bed. So everyone including us slept well that night.
In preparation for a busy day, we are up at 4 am to let the dogs out. Our wonderful vet Dr. Lara’s office is in Ibarra about a 30-minute drive. I think Dr. Lara is fantastic and provides care that is equal to our USA experience. His wife speaks English and translates the information for her husband. They even have electronic medical records. The first thing that Dr. Lara does is love stroke the pet’s head and face and calms them so he can complete an examination. He really won me over with his knowledge and love of animals. Well enough praising Dr. Lara and his wonderful team.

Our driver agreed to take the pets in his van. Just as soon as I started to move the dog crates outside our “pet kids” realized something was up. They started their crazy ‘yippee we are going somewhere routine’.

We finally got everyone loaded up for the trip. Kitty cried and Sassy were noisy travelers.

We finally arrived at Dr. Lara’s office.

After Sassy’s examination of her leg and foot, he determined she was fine. So each dog along with Kitty was examined. I forgot to mention that Max, QE, Lucy & Winky went along for grooming.
By 9:30 am we left the vet’s office to do some mega shopping at Super Maxi then returned home to await a call from Dr. Lara’s office that everyone was good to go. Everything went well so we picked up all the “pet kids” and returned home.
