FESTIVAL CHAGRA GOLD: Quiroga 2014
So what on earth is The Chagra? Well it is known the Spirit of the Highlands and is equivalent to a Texas Cowboy but in Ecuador. The cowboys are famous for their exceptional horseman skills and their unwavering training of their horses. Hundreds of Ecuadorian cowboys take part in this event riding their best horses through the streets of Cotacachi in a parade all the way to the next town of Quiroga. As the cowboys ride through Cotacachi showing off the talents of their riding skill and training of their horses they will shout either Cotachachi or Quiroga in a proud voice just like we would football teams and the crowd cheers. The horses prance and dance through the streets. One horse stepped so fast it was like a tap dancer. Another cowboy had his horse trained to lay down in the street. You have to not stand to close to the street or you could get stepped on by these spirited horses. Oh my such a sight to see!
